I'm not sure how or even why, but I found these on
Etsy and suddenly wanted one for myself. Not because I'm a baseball player or even a fan. And it has nothing to do with some nostalgic feeling I get when I see a baseball that reminds me of my childhood. Because frankly, I have no happy childhood memories that have anything at all to do with baseball. Nope, not even a random boyfriend (or crush) ever even played the game. Thus, I cannot explain my desire to hold this pretty little baseball. Doesn't it just look touchable?

Apparently there's some history to the lemon peel baseball. The look is inspired by the original baseballs from 1860. Incidentally, baseballs in those days (well, at least those before 1861) were often dark red, I guess because they were easier to see against the sky, and the dark leather was easier to come by. I don't pretend to be a baseball expert, so I may be wrong on the historical aspect. I really only care that they were colorful and fun. Like this:
