I admit, I will probably never actually hang wallpaper in any house I own. It's probably because I've moved into far too many homes where I've had to engage in the mundane and tiring task of spraying, scrubbing, scraping and peeling wallpaper from the walls. Ugly wallpaper. Seriously bad stuff that could never have actually been in style.
But someone has decided to make wallpaper cool again, and this stuff is pretty.
I still don't see myself commiting to a room full of wallpaper, or even just a single wall. Not only is it a pain to remove, but it's also pretty tricky to hang. At least, I remember struggling with a wallpaper border in my bedroom sometime in the 90's.
These will give you the same look as wallpaper, and they're easy to remove. This is a great way to incorporate a little pattern into a room, particularly if you're like me and you've recently noticed some rooms in your home care completely lacking pattern.
Not looking to spend that kind of money on wall art? Buy a roll of the pretty wallpaper and frame it yourself. Inexpensive frames are easy to find, either from a discount store or a thrift store. Filled with pretty wallpaper and hung in a grouping, they'd make a great accent (again, pretty wallpaper is key, none of that ugly stuff I've been scraping from walls ). Even better, you can take them down when you're tired of them, or when wallpaper is uncool again.
Update: After writing this post, I picked up a copy of Family Circle magazine (not one of my
usual titles, but the cupcakes on the front looked tasty). It had even more
great uses for wallpaper.
