Throwback Thursday: Headbands

Thursday, 15 May 2008 13:02 by sara

Headbands are great for summertime hair, especially after leaving the pool or riding in the convertible (I speak hypothetically, not from actual experience).

Fabric headbands are popping up all over the place.  They are so much easier to wear than the old plastic ones we had when I was little.  There are no behind-the-ear-aches with fabric.  Of course, you can still find fabric covered plastic. Those look really nice, too, but don't seem as comfortable.

Last June, Foofanangle featured a great headband tutorial. (You might have seen this on Sew, Mama, Sew during Handmade Holidays month).

I love that this one uses elastic at the bottom, which makes it easier for kids to pull on and off.  I've seen others that tie, which is really cute for grown ups.  There is a narrow version and a wide version (above is the wide version).  I would let the fabric dictate my choice, I think. If you had a nice bold print, it'd be fun to do the wide headband to show off more of the fabric.

Oh! Did I mention that the headband is reversible?

If you'd rather make one that ties in the back, check out Heather's Horray For Headbands pattern

Not feeling crafty this week?

Buy one from BCharmer.

Or tune in next week for Win-It Wednesday!

I love the headbands. I especially like them while doing housework, unpacking or other work that requires me to be able to see what I am doing!

I like headbands because I like headmusic. If I win I'll give it to my daughter. She's still too young to comment.
